Labor Day Advice: Plan Your Bad-Boss Getaway

As of May 2006, 151 million people were employed in the US labor force. And as many as half of them may report to bad bosses.

Most employed Americans, both labor and management, live only a job away from poverty. Think about that for a minute. A bad boss may hold the power to launch you into impoverishment for no reason. Where does that power come from? The knowledge that you are not prepared.

When it comes to dealing with an incorrigible boss, the most ideal situation you can be in is one in which you can quit your job, worry-free, within the first three months of reporting to a bad boss. Being in that situation takes away your bad boss's power to cause you financial suffering. But you've got to want it real bad to make it happen.

How do you get there? All you need to do is accumulate a six-month reserve—enough money to meet your expenses for six months in the event you are unemployed. Impossible? Yes, if you continue doing what you're doing. That's why you've got to want it real bad—you're going to have to change your habits: cut expenses and start a savings fund.
